here to a new beginning

Just one more and the butterfly watercolor postcard series will be done

I admit, without shame, I am one of those people who make new year resolutions. They are not about losing weight or exercising, but they are about what I want to become. My birthday is in January, so the new year has always represented a sort of rebirth to me.

It has been in the weeks preceding the new year, that I have had the most life changing experiences: got royally dumped for the first time, got my heart broken (a gazillion times), left home (twice), got engaged, got married... It is that mile mark, where the year presents itself as a clean slate and I am the master of my domain.

As I get older and feel the weight of my own mortality, where my whole life is no longer ahead of me, I am more committed to be true to my feelings and self. I am less preoccupied with other people's opinions. As a Capricorn/Dragon, stubbornness is a trait I unfortunately posses and I want to be kinder to those who love and care for me.

May the universe, G-d, Allah, Adonai, love, fraternity, Krishna, Ishtar, Inanna,  Iemanja, Nature, or whoever you chose to worship or not, provide a year that's filled with love and kindness. May the plights be few and the tears scarce; may the love be plenty and health abundant.

I have learned with each one of you this year. I have gotten guidance, support, and kindness from this virtual women's circle that presented itself to me through this blog. And for that, thank you.

Good morning, Sunshine...

This is quite an introspective post. Of course, my first question is why did you spell out completely, the name, 'Allah,' but spelled 'God' as 'G-d'... There is no right or wrong answer, but I am curious.

You sound a great deal like myself. I spend a great deal of time thinking about paths chosen, decisions made... good decisions, 'what if's'...

Just keep moving forward, Ana... don't listen too much to the words of others; instead, listen to your inner spirit...

Namaste...

I haven't done new year resolutions for a long time, but for the coming year I might just do one. It's good to have a goal or a plan to mark the start of a new year. Inner growth is a good resolution to have!

Have a happy new year!

I really identify with this post, being that I am also a January Birthday Baby and feel the fresh renewal at this time every year. I even got married in January and am about to celebrate a big anniversary. This January feels different to me, like it is going to be momentous in its beginnings.

Ana, a thoughtful post expressing what I think a lot of us feel. As time goes on it is a relief to stop worrying about the material world, and to focus more on the "interior" world. I like your words.

Ana, thank you for the New Year's wishes...like you, I also worry less what others think as I get older. I don't necessarily do resolutions anymore, but I do love to pick a "focus word" for the upcoming year. I hope you have a 2013 filled with peace and happy things. And more beautiful paintings! I always look forward to seeing those. :)

Sorry that I've been AWOL from blogland for what seems like ages but this year I focused my attentions on family . . . it was long overdue and felt wonderful. :)

This is an introspective time of year...I think I do less 'resolving' than I do exploring. Thank you for the lovely wishes, they are returned in full Ana.

Funny thing: my beloved Dad was a Capricorn, as is the Great Scot. (Dec. 22 and New Year's Day to be exact.)

Ana, Thank you very much for the calendar, it's lovely.
Your reflexion about New Year's resolutions touched me deep in the heart.
My birthday is not in January, but I feel the same, like a rebirth, the earth goes around the sun again!
I also want to be more true to myself.

I like making resolutions, too...and I take them quite seriously, though I take care not to be down on myself when I fail to achieve them. Moving forward in a positive way is the most important thing...and helping others along the way. Joy and blessings to you in the New Year!
