Taking Risks

I took the plunge. I had never met an online blog friend before in my life. For one, I am very private and wondered about exposing myself too much. Then, I had the feelings and doubts one would probably get on a blind date: what if they hate me? What if they find me ugly? What if we have nothing to talk about? What if they think I am the crazy dog lady? Will she be disappointed with the "real life" me?

Although I am becoming less adventurous with age, I have never been one to shy way from something I want to do because of fear. So, tonight my hubby and I went to dinner with Gigi from Gigi Hawaii and her husband David. A blog I have been following for a few months. I get to follow her beautiful grandchildren, amazing recipes, and of course the beautiful culture and views of Hawaii.

I really didn't know what to expect. I was nervous and anxious. We were running late because of work and a couple of accidents on the highway, but I am so glad I took the chance. Gigi and her husband were adorable and we had a wonderful meal. I guess one will never know what life will bring our way. I believe the most important is not to get too hung up on the destination, because the journey might just be filled with pleasant surprises.

** I apologize for the lack of posting and blog visits. Work has been VERY busy. Hopefully can get caught up over the weekend.

I never met up with a Blog friend before. I can imagine those feelings must be common for those who have.

I love the expressions on your four legged friends... I understand your hesitancy about meeting online bloggers... and yes, its like a blind date... I could kick myself for not meeting up w/a fellow blogger a few years ago.. He was a great teacher and traveled from Utah thru California...and yes, 'was'... a loss to his students as well as future ones.. a great person who was selfless.

I have met four blog friends over the past 6 or so years of blogging. All turned out well and I count those folks among my good friends.

I hope to meet more.

I'm glad you took the plunge and it came out swell. :-)

I'm glad you stopped by my blog last month so now I get to see what you are up to. Love your art work. Your pups - love their expressions.

Hope work lets up a bit!

So happy that you had such a successful meet and greet. Meeting a blog buddy is almost like a reunion-- you all ready know a lot about each other.
I have only met one so far and found he and his wife to be delightful and even more fun in person.

I have met a few bloggin' buddies and I always enjoy it. You can usually get a sense of how people are from their blogs so I have never been too worried about meeting people. I'm glad your meetup was fun too!

It must have been so nerve wracking to meet someone for the first time, but so lovely that you all have such a great time together!
I was happy to hear you know Oxford and studied there, it's a beautiful city isn't it? You mentioned the beer drinking, did you visit the pub called The Turf Tavern? It was down a tiny alleyway which opened up to a wonderful place to eat - and drink! Probably one of the best pubs in Oxford.xx

I have yet to meet a blog buddy who isn't the authentic person they are on the blog. And I've met a lot of them. I find them to be the friends I hadn't yet met and they remain the friends I have.

I'm glad you stepped out of that zone and met Gigi -- I hope she is the first of many!

I used to feel the same way, Ana, but over the years, I've discovered that you can learn a lot about people from what they write and share. So there are some people I'd love to meet because I've grown so very fond of them over time. I did get a chance to meet a blogging friend last summer, and she was as wonderful in person as she was on her blog. I hope another opportunity arises at some point with someone else - maybe even you! It will be fun!

I can well understand your first pangs of uncertainty about meeting an online friend. We worry that maybe in a face to face situation we would find we're not quite what each thought the other would be like.
I'm glad your meeting was so positive and that a new and deeper friendship was forged. :)
