starting a practice of simplicity

One of the things that is most pertinent in what comes to my beliefs is that simplicity leads to a place of calm and peace. I like having a comfortable life and am thankful for the things the universe has provided me, but I am also a believer that when your life becomes a reflection of what you have, then this spells disaster.

At the end of the journey (or the beginning of a new chapter), I still take nothing I can hold or carry. All I will take is the memory of my loved ones and the moments we shared together. So I decided to start a practice of simplicity. I am downsizing my life and stop holding on to things so tight.

The first things I want to tackle are the ones hardest for me: the food and the exercise. I love to eat, including all the stuff that's not good for me. And I am a well known and respected couch potato. I am not sticking to any strict diet, but day by day, meal by meal making smarter choices what goes into my body... and how I treat it.

I've always found that simpler is better too. If I were on my own, I would make my life simpler than it currently is.

Smart move and one I need to take. I remember when moving all my possessions could be handled in a small car. Now it takes a moving company and I am sure I am not one bit happier. Downsizing has to be healthier, mentally and physically. You go girl.

Good for you, Ana. I love simplicity, too. I'm also a minimalist. I de-clutter regularly, and try to keep only what we need in our home.

This is wonderful, Ana. A smart move. I will join you on your journey next month when I retire. I'm planning to look at my body (you sort of can't miss it) and treat it with more respect exercise wise. And purging lots of house stuff. Started that this weekend... I have a long way to go!

It will be a motivator to know you are out there doing the same!

Funny, I was just thinking that yesterday. It was raining out and I decided to do some much needed de-cluttering. It felt good. I actually wanted a truck to come so I can get them to take lots of stuff away.

Simplicity is good. Good luck on your journey. If it was healthy to be a couch-potato I would love that as I could just read away!

I must have those post-its!

Interesting post. The post-its made me laugh - I'm with Riot Kitty, would love to have them but your words were somewhat alarming Ana. Is everything okay?

Good for you! A path wisely chosen!

Japolina up there nailed it with the 'KISS' Approach.

Simple IS best, I think. All of that other stuff overwhelms us so.

I've been in hiding for a bit... just thought I would come out and play some... :o)

It's always good to 'see' you, Ana.

Our modern lives have become very complex and with the complexity comes stress and anxiety.
Good for you for taking the first steps to bring simplicity and balance back into your existence. Don't worry about the steps being small - the journey of a hundred miles is taken one step at a time. :)

It's funny, but exercise and eating right is a way for me to pull myself out of the mental ditch I often find myself in. I like (LOVE) eating too, But I acknowledge it also makes me feel not so great about things (except in certain situations where it's part of the fun!) I've struggled with my weight since I was a teenager, and it'll be a lifetime thing. Darnit. :)
