Worse than all the misconceptions about introverts is to be a misunderstood introvert. I have recently looked for information on introverts who do not fit the conception of quiet.
Believe me, if there is one thing I am not is quiet. I am lively, I talk with my hands, I laugh (a lot) and I am very talkative. Growing up, the chief complaint from my teachers to my mom was how I would never shut up in class. I participated in pretty much all school plays and belonged to the debate team.
Public speaking never bothered me up until recently and I love chatting with people at the supermarket line. However, all of these characteristics don't take away my introverted personality traits: my need for alone time, my complete disgust for small talk, and my discomfort in crowded spaces or social situations where I am expected to be social.
It was interesting how even I had my own misconceptions of what I was supposed to be like as an introvert. So, I felt a great sense of relief when I read a short Psychology Today article that talked about the "bubbly introvert." It is a bit sad that I felt insecure enough as an introvert, that I needed validation of who I am and fit in the introvert world. But nonetheless, it was refreshing to see that we come in various shades and colors.

I may be a bit of a bubbly introvert! I hate having to make small talk at cocktail parties, etc and the older I get, the more I realize that I am happiest with my loved ones and dear friends and don't need a lot of social life other than them!
This makes perfect sense to me. You can be introverted and still be a social person. And the thing about small talk, I learned a while back how to make it but I also still don't like it.
I totally understand and love that term. Think I can paste that to my description also.
great butterfly
I think introverts are just starting to be recognized, and I suppose it will be awhile before we are fully understood. For awhile, it looked like our personality type was being considered as a mental illness. Can you imagine. We would have been diagnosed with "introverted personality disorder", and who knows what type of treatment would have followed...including medications?? So, let's just say that we are moving forward, even if it's at a slow pace.
I think that being an introvert is to be perpetually misunderstood. That's been my experience. Only other introverts truly understand what introversion means.
Oi Ana, esqueça os rótulos, seja você e pronto!
Bjs querida e ótima semana
I've learned something about this, too. That helps me understand how complicated being an introvert really is. Sweet hugs!
I certainly can identify with what you are saying completely .I am a very similar type of introvert . Glad you shared this post and the article .
I love your post! Very well written and a perfect description for me. Your artwork as always is fabulous!! Thanks for always sharing your thoughts!!
My boss at work was talking to me about this recently...she's an introvert and spoke about all the misonceptions about introverts.
I like that term Bubbly Introvert Ana. For me it takes a while to get close to people but once I'm, then they have to say shut up to me:) I talk too much.
Hi Ana!! I am shy and an introvert...I talk too much or laugh too much if I am nervous, I think. I hate small talk. I should read up on introverts, I think I can even misunderstand myself! I am a textbook Capricorn however...and thrilled that my daughter may just have a Capricorn baby!!!!! This girl will be punctual...
Excellent! I am so happy you feel better! Feeling insecure is not fun! I love your new piece of art! Take Care ;o)
Thanks for this! I'm a bubbly introvert, too! I never really thought about it but yes, that's me. I may be a Leo but this girl has a LOT of Virgo!
i've always said i wouldn't be able to talk if i couldn't use my hands, lol. and i always got in trouble for talking in school. i'm definitely a talker. your artwork of the butterfly is beautiful. i love the colors you've chosen. have a great day~
It's interesting how introverts come in all "shapes and sizes"...we're a fascinating bunch, if I do say so myself. :)
Actually, you sound just like me. I'm exactly the same way!
Interesting! People who meet me in the context of work, where I have to be outgoing (doing outreach), never believe I'm an introvert. But I know exactly what you mean. We don't all hide in corners (although I would at a party where I didn't know anyone, so I don't go.)
Because of your post, I just took like three tests because I'm still unsure. I think I'm in ambivert because most tests results are 50/50. I think I need to stop beating myself for wanting to be alone and wanting to be around people and not being able to make up my mind, ha ha! xoxo, Introvert!
Hmm - I guess I must be an introverted introvert. Now I really feel bad about myself.
Love the butterfly.
beautiful butterfly! - apt illustration for your post!
That's such a unique spin... I've always been super, painfully shy. I was always the kid in the back of the class drawing. But I went to college and got a theatre degree (though it was for costuming, not acting) and I sort of came out of my shell. I still prefer to do things on my own and remain extremely independent. If I'm out and about I have to come home to silence. And I've realized that I'm not really into loud crowds. Like, at all. My husband is a loner, so we kind of fit together. But it's nice to think that there's a specific label, so to speak, other than what my classmates dubbed as "weird." The paintings are lovely. :)
Oh this is so true Ana. Being myself an introvert, I am not quiet at all, I am not shy either. I just need much time to be alone with myself...
Beautiful paintings
