the power of true friendship

Bird 2- watercolor postcard series

Have you ever had a friend where it did not matter how long you went without talking; when you did, it was as though time did not pass?

New kid in the stamp collection

Today I spoke to my best friend. The one who knew me inside and out. The one I told things I wouldn't tell a therapist. The one who saw me at my worst. The one I had to almost lose in order to set free.

As I talked to her, I realized the sea that separates us is of no importance. That the months, at times years, we went without talking made no difference in the love we feel for each other.

“A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.”― William Shakespeare

Beautiful post. Those friends are far and few but precious. I love how you mentioned you'd say things to that person that you wouldn't tell a therapist. Absolutely perfect.

And a true friend is someone that (no matter how long you didn't see them or spoke to them) makes you feel like you only left them yesterday.
Nice artwork Ana!

Oh yes. And that is one of the very best kind of friends. I like not having to explain everything and just feeling that no matter what you say, it will be understood in the way that you meant it to be.

Oh yes...I have a friend or two like that. There's no better feeling than to have someone who is always there, even if time and space are between you. Beautiful art work!

I love your beautiful paintings, especially Bird 2. And you are so right about friendships. Three years ago 4 of us who started grade school together met for a reunion to celebrate our 75th birthdays. We came together in SC from Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington state. It was as if time had stood still. Thanks for liking my older lady painting. I think you are the only person to comment on her. She does have a sassiness to her.

I have very few of that kind of friend. Lucky you! Ana, I and my hubby plan to be in Miami for 3 nights in early August. We would love to treat you and your hubby to either lunch or dinner. I hope you don't live too far away. Will email you later.

This is so encouraging Ana. I am having a difficult time with someone I am close to. It makes me sad but I guess sometimes you need a little bit of distance to put things in perspective

Those friends are few and far between and they are to be cherished. I'm so glad you got to talk to yours...how special!

Yes, Friends like that are Priceless indeed! I have one Lifelong Friend that quite often goes off the grid for lengthy periods of time... but when she reconnects it is as if we pick up right where we left off, however long it has been that she was MIA. And then there are those Lifelong Friends that contact has been constant for well over Forty years and I couldn't Imagine not hearing from them and Sharing Life.

That is so beautiful, and you have a lovely talent for drawing, I have a bit of talent for drawing, I can write novels, but I never send themout, because my concentration is gone and I can't proofread it. The only thing that comes to me as naturally as breathing is being out taking photos with no one around. People don't talk to photographers, they're afraid their pic will be taken...well you know you've got to find tricks. I hide behind my lense...I should never have lived the life of an extrovert, I just didn't know that the feeling I got around people was a common thing...eventually you get to knw who you are, one way or the other
