artistic finesse

In one week we leave. I am excited and at the same time dreaming about the flight every night. You know, I have a phobia of flying... At least the dreams have gone from pure nightmares of crashing to just being on a commercial jet with a pilot who thinks he is on a F-16.

Is finesse a dying art? Or is the world gone crazy? I have noticed that some people just have an attitude at the work place.

I am no one's doormat, believe me, but I am also extremely skilled in the art of finesse. We have a young woman in my dept. who is a temp. I need an assistant, so I interviewed her for the position and said if it works out, she would be hired for the position. Fast forward it one week and she already gave attitude to me and the other 2 members of my team.

I always say that  I can teach people a lot f things, but positive attitude is not one of them.

Too bad you're not in Maryland, I'd be your assistant and you could pay me in watercolours.

Okay, seriously, I don't understand why everyone is so attitude-y lately. And on the flip side of this, I had a supervisor berate & attempt to shame me for over 30 minutes (literally) when I called in sick one morning. (A rare thing for me to do.)

I don't get it. It seems so counterproductive to doing business.

Good luck with finding an assistant conversant with the art of finesse.

I hear you! I am constantly surprised at the number of people who are rude and disrespectful at work. Even teachers next door to teachers....

These days I'm not a fan of flying. Used to fly a lot. I sympathize with the feeling.
There is certainly a lack of respect and common courtesy everywhere. It is hard to deal with.

Hmmm...think of all the super cool things you can see from the window! I once saw a circle rainbow, and crop circles and stripes, and sunsets and sunrises are simply beautiful!

As for finesse...there are only two teachers: parents, who can teach by example, and life, it teaches just by happening ;) She will learn eventually, hopefully!

" finesse a dying art?"
Sigh. . . .enforced self esteem based no merely showing up seems to have killed any emotional sensitivity towards anyone outside of SELF. . . . Though many young people are wise and kind. . .
Hope you have a good flight.

I love flying - especially that moment you first catch sight of a brand new place - be it a city or continent - so exciting to have a bird's eye view! When we flew to Australia and New Zealand in May, I took a number of arial shots which I've since framed.

One only needs to read the news to see how ungracious and impatient society in general has become - many factors have played a part in this - scary to think where we're headed...

i think the key word is "young"....i believe the the ability to finesse comes with experience and age...unfortunately.

i love the colors of the butterfly! and the variation of the orange background.

and where are you flying to? somewhere fun i hope!

Perhaps finesse is a dying art. Some countries/societies and individuals have it more than others. Some people feel that traditional society had it more than the modern ages. I feel that it has also something to do with slowing down instead of leading a fast paced life.
All the best for your travel plans, I was also initially scared of flying but now it is ok.

My husband is afraid of flying and he has to knock himself out with pills to make it through. :)) Hope it's not as bad for you. Your butterflies are the cutest.

I also am quite an anxious flyer - especially during take-off and landing. A little drink calms me down. Some people simply have no idea how to interact with others in a productive fashion. Tact and diplomacy are alien concepts to them.

Finesse is an art form...Not all are artistic.

A little tact and some good manners goes a long way. Unfortunately, not everyone has these qualities, and some people just never learn. Push back when you need to with these people; it's the only language they understand.

I wish you a good flight, Ana! Don't worry too much. Apparently, it's safer in a plane than on the road.

Finesse, yes a dying art it seems. When I was an assistant I never left before my boss, I always asked if I could help, and back talk? NEVER! It shocks me how young people have no sense of manners or respect. Or get the concept that they are getting PAID to be there. sigh. I am not a strict boss, but I do expect this basic polite behavior. I would have already have sat your new 'temp' assistant down to explain 'tips for easy living.' And she would only have 2 strikes for me. Once as a warning. Twice and I'm looking for a new assistant.

I think a great deal of the need for 'attitude' has been due to the advent of 'reality' shows on TV.

Those characters on those shows have to act out in order to be noticed, and I see that it has seeped into real life.

Oh my dear, the attitude of the world is to me getting worse and worse. Just go out to a store and see how many grumps there are out there? Do they not know a smile takes less effort to do than a grumpy frown? Just before retiring I noticed even the teenagers are awful, they just don'g seem to care in attitude, dress or anything seems like. Thank goodness there are still a few out there that have a good attitude and finesse, that gives us hope my young friend. xoxox

Teaching positive attitude is impossible I think it is a genetic thing:) You are going to have so much fun. I had a fear of flying but I figured it is all the way you think of it. I did not die the first time nor the next time nor the next time and I will not die again all is good try it believe it or not it works. I love flying now I wasted all that time worrying about something that did not happen. Love your art Ana.

In any eveny try not to be afraid. Enjoy the ride? tee hee. Love your butterfly, it is awesome. Watercolor right? Nice going. Take care and have a great weekend and week ahead. Take a lot of pictures.

I was never afraid to fly until this one flight to Michigan scared the crap out of me. Now I am getting over my fear because I know I want to travel everywhere and because I love wine and it helps me when I'm flying, lol.

About the attitude chick - better she should you now then later down the line. You didn't fall into something that would have been a detrimental work relationship. Good luck with finding an assistant! I hope you find someone who embodies finesse, tact, humbleness and professionalism. xoxo!
