The Value of Small Things

Yesterday I was fuming. Not just angry, but feeling so much rage that I was cursing in a low voice some bad, bad words. The reason why I was so mad is because the post office lost my parcel.

As I paced between the management office and my place, I was blinded with fury. I was frustrated, tired, and indignant that my order had been lost.

This small occurrence was able to make a bad day worse and make me feel as though my whole world was out of control. So I did what I always do when I feel this way: I took a hot shower and went to bed.

It was at that time my husband came over and said: “I know you are mad, but you can use the “voice” (the voice meaning this cartoon voice I make that my husband finds absolutely horrible).” I started laughing so hard that all my troubles vanished.

Until I was older, I was never able to appreciate the small things in life, such as having food and shelter. I was able to see that there was a lot of injustice in the world, but my vision was so "wide"I could not really capture the value of small things.

It was yesterday, when I saw the smile and redness in my husband’s face that the meaning of “the value of small things” made full sense to me. It is his smile that matters the most, not a lost parcel.

This is a lovely post words and images....

Little things mean a lot,

Hub's smile,
faithful canine companions,
messages from friends, like treasures from heaven.............x

The little things really do add up and outweigh even the big bad things. We just have to learn to count the good things whenever and wherever we see them... and stop counting and weighing the big things, I suppose.

I can so relate to having the little things sometimes overwhelm me, when in the scheme of things they're so minor. You're very blessed to have a kind husband with a sense of humor who can draw you out of that place when it happens. I'm also grateful to have a husband who helps me get my perspective back when I need to! Your pencil sketches are lovely!

I agree. :) But if your weren't fuming about the lost parcel you wouldn't have the chance to appreciate the smile fully. :)Great sketch! :)

Monika, you are absolutely right. Sometimes it is what we choose to focus on that makes the difference.

He is for sure my sounding board and my best friend. It took me a while to learn to appreciate those who are close to me... I guess it comes with maturity. I am happy you have a wonderful soul next to you Sherri. You sound like a beautiful soul and surely deserves to be blessed.

Isn't that true Natasha?! If it weren't for the bad moments, we wouldn't be able to really appreciate the good ones.

Great lesson! Sometimes laughter is the best medicine and the little moments of someone reaching out to us can change everything. But you gotta let it happen. (Sometimes I don't let it happen. sigh!)

oh Marie. Sometimes I don't either... I guess as long as we are trying right?

What a beautiful story, truly is. I sometimes have to take a step back and realize all of the things I should be grateful for. And when I do, it makes a world of a difference in my attitude. There's just so much beauty in the simple things in life, yeah? :) Thanks for visiting my blog, I'm glad to have found yours.
