Sketching in Brazil

There are a lot of things nowadays that makes me wonder about my membership into the human race.

But if there is something that ultimately makes me feel part of something bigger than all the pettiness and atrocities I see is music. Music is the ultimate uniter, the one thing that transcends language, ethnicity, race, religion, country borders...

It is when I hear a beautiful piece of music that I realize we are all one, connected by the same motivations: family, love, companionship, shelter, food and that the despicable actions we commit are propelled by the same emotion: fear.

I always wanted this blog to be devoid of anything that leads to emotions such as fear. I wanted my words to be like music, free from conceptions of race, religion, ethnicity, borders... so only the words are heard and all the other misconceptions and prejudices are removed from the equation.

What about you? What makes you feel one with the universe?

That's a beautiful post! Thank you for sharing that! Yes, music has soothing, inspiring powers for me, too. Something else that fills me with good feelings is going to my zumba class. They do nonverbal cueing as we dance, so there are no spoken words for the entire hour, just music and dancing, each in our space, yet all doing the same thing together. At the end, there is a motivational, inspirational song and I always go home feeling like all is right with the world. :)

I love it. Your writing and your sketch! What makes me feel one with the universe? Sitting under the stars.

What makes me feel most at one with the universe? The sharing of stories. Each being... tree or squirrel, dolphin or teenager, fox or crone...has a story to share. It is in the weaving together of those stories that the universe creates itself.

Fear? That is the unraveller.

Music is a great uniter indeed. I've never thought of it that way, but you're right. I think what makes me feel the most at one with the universe is nature :)

That sketch is awesome ... love the movement and how it captured a moment along your journey. Music. Yes. It is one of the things that I absolutely love about travel is hearing local music and feeling the meaning behind it from those who are telling the story.

Being close to nature and finding the time to observe and reconnect to that which is really important are things that make me feel at one with the universe. :) I love your sketch of Brazil!

That's a good question and a wonderful post (and painting, too.) Yes, you are right on music. Also laughter and sharing -- stories, time. Walking on a beautiful day does it for me and so, too, does petting Lizzie and hearing her purr. That the world is there in that tiny little body -- the good, bad and ugly of it, but all there, and tamed with love.

I agree with you, for me it is music and a close second would be nature. Music is my first love though and right now I am in love with Sound Cloud.. I can hear original music from people all over the world and it is magical!

I agree with you. Music is global and dates back to humankind's primitive past. Music has powers to make us happy or sentimental, it can make us want to dance, sing or simply close our eyes and dream.
Other than that I find myself connected to our global universe whenever I look up into the night sky and think about the countless galaxies out there, each filled with a multitude of stars and perhaps planets much like our own Earth. That's when I suddenly feel how tiny our world is and how much we all truly need one another.

Beautiful sketch!

Sitting alone by the ocean makes me feel like a molecule in the universe -- and it's a relief to know that there are bigger things than my own, sometimes-petty, self out there.

Have to say Nature,
but music is right up there
as well.

Sketching in Brazil
is wonderful - I love the lines
and water colors - very nice.

Journal is traveling and seems
to be filling up with fabulous
art - very exciting.

Hope your weekend is grand!

And your blog is all of that and more, dear Ana...
You are so special. :)
The illustration is gorgeous...

I feel the same about music...in fact, how is it that you seem to write about what is going on inside my head so often? ;)

xoxoxo,

Art, music, dance...any form of expression makes me feel at one with the universe. I often say "we are more alike than different" and I see that more and more each day. This post is an example of how I feel. Thanks for sharing. :)

That is such a good point. I was just thinking along similar lines the other day, although you summarized it much better than I ever could. Music really makes you feel like you can just be.
